Thanks to its "Stelvio" ski run, Bormio has permanently hosted at least one annual World Cup race since 1993. In 1995, Alpine Ski World Cup finals were held on Bormio's skiing mountain. Even if there was a lack of snow, World Cup races could be held thanks to the modern snow making and the expertise of the organisers. In 2000 Bormio was one of the hosts of the the Snow festival, all alpine finals have been held again in Bormio.
The Men's Downhill in Bormio is usually held at the end of December, on the splendid slope called the "Stelvio". This has become one of the great classics in the World Cup circuit, requiring extreme technical skills as well as endurance by the skier. |
